A number of farmers in Wau South and West complained of widespread presence of armed cattle keepers coming from Warrap State saying their cattle is destroying farms and gardens.
The complaint was addressed to Mayor’s Office by chiefs and residents of Natabu and Mamoi who said the cattle is not allowing them to prepare the new cultivation season.Wau Mayor Michael Geaba Ukolo told Voice of Hope Radio the complaint was reported to the State Security Committee.
Mayor Geaba added that he is heading a committee to resolve the issue and his office is on continuous dialogue with Warrap authorities over the cattle.
Last year, Jur River County signed an agreement with Warrap State allowing cattle keepers to graze in specified spaces after the harvest.
Mayor Geaba said an amicable agreement will be reached and such cases should not happen again.
Mr Geaba appreciated the farmers for handling the issue wisely, respecting the administration system.
