The authorities of Juba City Council on Saturday launched a joint operation with the national security operatives to crack down on illegal street-dollars-sellers.

Juba Mayor Mohamed Al Haj Babala told journalists in his office that the joint operation followed a local ordered banning illegal dollars exchange, Bakhita Radio reported.

He said although the City Council forbade street dollars transactions, dealers kept the business.

Mr Babala added that the current operation was announced at the beginning of March.

Deputy Mayor Hakim Deng said the operation was a joint initiative from the Juba City Council Office with the state and national governments to put an end to the illegal dollar street market.

Mr Babala said all those who were arrested will face the law and their money will be confiscated.

He warned the Central Bank to avoid giving money to the street dealers.
