The Catholic Bishop of Torit died suddenly at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, on Monday morning.
Bishop Akio Johnson Mutek was evacuated from Juba Teaching Hospital to Nairobi on Saturday following kidney failure, CRN learned.
He was 55.
Bishop Akio had a long history of kidney problems.
He underwent two transplants in India.
The late bishop was ordained priest in December 18, 1988, and appointed auxiliary bishop of Torit on May 18, 1999.
He was ordained bishop on August 15, 1999 and became bishop of Torit on June 9, 2007.
