Eleven civil society organizations have called for a one-year extension of the mandate of the National Constitution Review Commission and budgetary allocation.

The civil society groups said in a press release that they were deeply concerned about the amount of time the commission took to start consultations which are the core of the review process.

The groups added that up to date there has been no clear report as to what the commission has done so far.

The civil society organizations said they strongly supported the proposal to extend the mandate of the National Constitution Review Commission to at least one year.

The groups called upon President Salva Kiir Mayardit to support the Constitution making process in good will as an opportunity to foster unity and harmony among the people of South Sudan.

In a related development, on Monday the National Legislative Assembly debated the proposal to extend the mandate of the National Constitution Review Commission and some MPs proposed an extension of two years.
