Businessmen were happy to reduce prices but many charges levied on them might force prices up again.

Trader Duku Bosco told Bakhita Radio that maize flour dropped from 120 to 100 pounds, but licences increased from 1500 to 3000 and rubbish collection from 30 per month to 300 Pound.

He said the increase on licenses, rubbish collection and land rent might push prices up again.

Vava Muctar Issa, who sells in Jebel Market, said traders face many challenges because business is seasonal.

He said overcharged prices of rents, taxes and rubbish collection may affect prices negatively.

Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development, Betty Achan Ogwaro, on Tuesday said charcoal production is taking the farming community away from the fields because it gives more money but causes food insecurity.
