South Sudan Land Alliance or SSuLA has elected a new executive body through secret ballot by delegates drawn from the ten State Land Alliances.
The former head of SSuLA Steering Committee, Therezine Filbert, was unanimously elected unopposed for the position of chairperson, underscoring the immense work she and her committee did to establish firm ground for the alliance. The election was conducted after a three-day General Assembly in Juba.
NPA Country Director, Kari Egge, observed that land rights are not often given as much attention as any other rights.
She said NPA’s research focusing on land acquisitions Indicated that more than 80 percent of the South Sudan population draws its survival directly from land.
Ms Egge added that the initiative of SSuLA is therefore very important and that their work will benefit the next generations.
