Six men suspected of ambushes and highway robberies along the Rumbek-Maper road are under detention in Langcok military barracks awaiting trial.

The six suspects, in chains and with bruised bodies, are accused of stopping vehicles at gunpoint, setting up illegal road blocks, and harassment and looting of truck drivers, Good News Radio reported.

Dhal Majok and his colleague are accused of blocking the road with stones, looting money and forcing a driver to carry them at gunpoint.

The driver reported the case to the nearest military barrack and the suspects were immediately arrested.

One suspect was on a police want list for beating a soldier and take his gun.

Two other suspects, Makol Makur and Matoch Riel, are accused of stopping a vehicle at gunpoint and confiscated a phone.

Police Inspector Mangar Makeny Kamich said the six suspects will be interrogated and taken to court .

He added that their victims would testify during the trials.

He warned of a continued crackdown on highway robberies and killings in Lakes State.

Last week, a WFP driver carrying food aid to Unity State was shot dead along Maper-Mayendit road by unknown gunmen.
