Authorities in Jur River County of Western Bahr el Ghazal postponed at the last minute the swearing-in ceremony for the members of County Legislative Council Wednesday morning at the County’s new headquarters in Nyinakok.

The postponement was understood to be connected with legal procedures: the county legal advisor said an appointed judge should preside over the oath of office.

Jur River Commissioner John Arop Apai announced the postponement.

Mr Arop said he would announce another date for the swearing-in ceremony while he extended his deepest apology to the attendants.

He revealed that he would investigate what went wrong in the preparations for the ceremony.

Governor Rizik Zachariah Hassan on January 30 established four legislative councils in the three Counties of Western Bahr el Ghazal plus Wau Municipality, appointing 35 members to each of them.

Last week, members of Wau Municipal Council took the oath of office.

Members of Wau County Legislative Council should be installed on Friday in the new Bagari headquarters.
