Officials promoting hygiene and public health are receiving continuous attacks from Rumbek residents in Lakes State.

Rumbek Central County acting public health administrator James Magok Akech told Good News Radio that his staff is not respected by the community that resists orders, and abuses and sometimes beats them.

He warned that public health workers will be escorted by the police during their rounds and the county will press charges against those who disrespect the officials.

Mr Magok said intellectuals were the group that presented more resistance to the public health officials chasing them away from their houses.

He requested good cooperation from the educated people to allow public health officials do their work without fear.

Last year, public health official were attacked several times in Rumbek just because they were telling the people to keep their places clean.
