St Martin de Porres Brothers are a teaching congregation and as such they need to own their own schools.
This is the vision newly elected superior general Daniel Loding Onek shared with CRN at the end of a thanksgiving mass for the success of the sixth General Chapter presided by Bishop Santo Loku Pio on Thursday evening in Rejaf.Bro Loding, 46, said the congregation should have its own schools in Juba and Torit, in South Sudan, and in Gulu and Nebi in Uganda Ð where the brother work.
He added that the brothers are engaged in schools belonging to the dioceses but they needed to have their own schools to render a better service.
Bro Loding said the congregation would like to return to Kit, the place where it was born in 1953, just outside Juba.
He added that that was one of the decisions taken by the Fifth General Chapter six years ago but the Archbishop of Juba told the brothers to put it on hold.
Bro Loding said now that Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro approves the transfer, the congregation looks forward to return to the grounds where it started.
He said in 1965, during the Anyanya One war, the troops from Khartoum destroyed their buildings in Kit and the brothers moved their headquarters to Uganda.
Bro Daniel explained that many brothers left the congregation after Sudan and the SPLM signed peace.
He said the congregation has 42 brothers and they are effective and efficient to serve the Church through teaching at primary, secondary and university levels.
St Martin de Porres Brothers are present in South Sudan, Uganda and Sudan.
