NGO TRAINS SOUTH SUDANESE GIRLS

Mercy Beyond Borders (MBB) is training South Sudanese girls on leadership and basic computer skills in Narus Parish of the Catholic Diocese of Torit.

The Parish Priest of Narus, Fr. Tim Galvin encouraged the girls to establish and maintain strong relationships among themselves during their stay in Narus.

He was speaking while opening the training on Monday.

Fr. Tim said gathering of the girls provides an opportunity to overcome effects of civil war including division, trauma and prejudice and to realize the importance of cross-cultural relationships for nation building.

The Executive Director of MBB, Sr. Marilyn Lacey, said the training is a realization of her dream since she founded the NGO.

She said similar meetings would be organized annually.

Teresa Achol Mayor of St. Comboni Secondary School, Mapuordit, thanked God for protecting them throughout the journey from Rumbek while witnessing insecurity incidents along the road to Narus.

Deborah Nyacek of Rumbek Nursing School promised to make friends from other parts of South Sudan, expressing delight for the opportunity of reaching Torit and Narus for the first time.

Rebecca Muraa of Nimule Parish applauded Sr. Marilyn for the tireless efforts in ensuring scholarships for South Sudanese girls.

Mercy Beyond Borders (MBB) is offering scholarships to 73 South Sudanese girls in Secondary schools and Colleges in South Sudan, Kenya and Uganda.

49 MBB scholars are attending the Narus leadership training came from Rumbek, Torit Lodwar and Kakuma.

The NGO officially registered in South Sudan with a Microfinance enterprise program, with 60 South Sudanese female beneficiaries mainly in Torit Diocese.
