The use of mobile phones, approaching dry season and absence of police posts in most areas has increased crimes in Eastern Equatoria State.
Eastern Equatoria State Minister for Public Administration and Internal Affairs, Claudio Suleiman Liling told Radio Emmanuel that the cattle raiders are quickly gathering wealth before the dry season comes.He said during the dry season, security forces find it easier to trace cattle raiders’ foot marks and arrests are possible.
Kapoeta North County Commissioners, Lokai Iko said criminals are looking for resources to meet their Christmas demands.
He said the criminals are also aided by the use of mobile phones to monitor the movement of security and this makes their arrest difficult.
Budi County Commissioner, Maurice Kaunda said lack of police posts in most areas of Buya is another reason crimes are high in the area.
He said arresting criminals in Buya area is risky without police posts.
Eastern Equatoria state witnessed armed robberies, attacks on cars and people since mid November, along Torit-Kapoeta highway with robbers attacking cars at different locations daily.
