Government of South Sudan needs to put in budget to treat more than 9,162 AIDS patients.
South Sudan Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS, Lole Laila said South Sudan government needs to put in budget to support people living with HIV/AIDS viruses.He made the remark on Saturday in Juba during the celebration of World AIDS Day under the theme: √É’√É’Getting towards zero new HIV infection, zero discrimination and zero AIDS related death”.
He also called on foreign and local NGOs to continue supporting both the national and states government to help fight HIV/ AIDS infection in the country.
Mr Laila added that 3,009 AIDS patients are on treatment while 6,153 are in need of drugs.
UN representative on AIDS Programme Baoz Cheluget said 25 countries in sub Sahara had reduced new infection by 50 percent and South Sudan needs to do the same.
Mr Cheluget added that South Sudan needs to work hard in order to receive similar result with other countries.
Mr Cheluget said in 2011, South Sudan was having 16,000 new infections and 45 people are believed to get infections every day with 36 adults and 15 children less than 15 year of age.
