The Catholic Bishop of Yei detached officially Lainya from Christ the King Cathedral Parish on Sunday according to 515 code of the Canon Law.
Erkolano Lodu Tombe, Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Yei wrote in his detachment letter that Lainya separated from Christ the King Parish because of the growing desire of faithful to have priests closer to them to administer the sacraments.He said the priests will celebrate the Eucharist regularly to the Christians to satisfy their spiritual hunger.
the detachment came after several consultations with the Clergy, Religious men and women, the faithful of Christ the King Parish and Lainya Chapel to make Lainya a parish.
The Bishop said the Parish of Lainya is entrusted to the pastoral care of the Missionaries of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD).
Earlier the Superior General of the Society of the Divine Word and the Bishop of Yei Diocese signed an agreement for the Parish to be under the Society.
The new parish is to be inaugurated on the 30th of December, 2012, on the feast of the Holy Family to which it is dedicated.
