South Sudan is far from achieving all the Development Goals set by the UN but it could lower poverty levels, combat gender inequality and solve the issue of water.
The alert comes from Isaiah Chol Aruai, who chairs the National Bureau of Statistics.In 2000, the UN approved eight Millennium Development Goals to eradicate hunger, achieve universal schooling, promote gender equality, reduce child mortality, improves maternal health, combat aids and other killer diseases, ensure environmental sustainability and a global partnership for development by 2015.
Mr Aruai told reporters on Thursday that South Sudan alongside with a number of countries might find it difficult to achieve all the development goals, Bakhita Radio reported.
He said South Sudan could make inroads in poverty and famine eradication though agriculture, gender equality by putting women in strategic positions and clean water.
Mr Chol explained that the Development Goals were ambitious targets set for governments to follow.
He added that the goals can provide guidance to identify the issues that affect people and allocate resources.
Most of the key development goals for human enhancement remain just good intensions two years before they should have been achieved.
