The former commissioner of Wau County has refuted claims by the state government that he escaped to Yambio where he was arrested.

John Peter Miskin resigned last month as Wau county commissioner and he was put under investigation on allegations that he was behind the protesters who closed Baggari road to stop the government to move Wau County headquarters away from the town.

He told Voice of Hope on Tuesday afternoon over the phone that he did not escape but was on a normal trip to Juba and he would return to Wau.

Mr Miskin denied to be behind the protests and resigned out of respect for his community.

He said the community was opposing the transfer of Wau County headquarters since September last year and more than 720 people signed a petition against the relocation.

He accused the state government of fusing up the mess they created by blaming some individuals instead of finding better ways of addressing the issue.

Mr Miskin advised the state government to listen to the people because the power of any authority is in the hands of citizens.

He called on Wau intellectuals to be peaceful and not to use violence in handling matters of their concern.
