Two people in Unity State’s Yida refugee camp have died from Hepatitis E, UNHCR – the UN Refugee Agency said.
Since the outbreak was announced in September in Maban County, Upper Nile, a total of 28 people have died from the disease in Upper Nile and Unity states.The outbreak was originally identified in camps in Upper Nile.
A number of cases of jaundice were registered in the Yida Camp Unity State, the largest refugee site in South Sudan home to almost 64 thousand people.
Seventeen people were diagnosed with jaundice in Yida so far.
Laboratory tests confirmed Hepatitis E infection as the cause of these AJS cases in two of six samples sent to medical labs in Nairobi.
