UNMISS PREPARES WAU FOR INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY

UNMISS, the United Nation Mission in South Sudan, has opened a photo exhibition on peace building Thursday morning at Wau Youth Centre to launch the International Day of Peace celebration on Friday.

The two-day photo exhibition displays UNMISS’ role in promoting peace in various counties of Western Bahr El Ghazal, Voice of Hope reported.

UNMISS Representative Michael Massquoi read out the UN secretary general’s message to mark the International Day of Peace under the theme “A sustainable peace for a sustainable future.”

Ban Ki-moon advocates for the complete cessation of hostilities around the world and the use of natural resources for development not for war.

Western Bahr El Ghazal Governor Rizik Zachariah Hassan said the state government was ready to cooperate with all UN agencies and NGOs to develop the community.

He stressed that security was key to progress and literacy the way to combat local conflicts.

Mr Zachariah urged Government and NGOs to keep collaborating to celebrate peace by improving education.
