ATUOT COMMUNITY INTRODUCES WRESTLING COMPETITION

Dinka Atuot community from Yirol of Lakes state has introduced wrestling competition to Dinka Rek residents in Tonj South County of Warrap state.

Daniel Majok Nyigong one of the organizers told Don Bosco Radio that the exercise brings peace and interaction to the people.

He added that the exercise also avoids acts of stealing and fighting among the communities.

Mr Nyigong said wrestling is meant to test the strength of young men and to equalize adding that it is only conducted during important occasions.

Maker Mangan Alat, the community youth leader said they introduced the wrestling exercise in order to bring youth of Atuot and Dinka Rek together.

He added that wrestling exercise is also meant to stop cattle raiding and ethnic conflicts that hinder peaceful coexistence of these communities.

The exercise was organized by local chiefs and headmen as a means of building peaceful co-existence among the neighboring states.

The wrestling exercise is done weekly in different areas of Tonj Town to bring interaction in Waramel and Timthok.
