Twelve business women at risk were trained on small firms management in Tombura County of Western Equatoria.
The 12 selected women were running already some businesses, including small restaurants, food stalls and shops.Six of the beneficiaries were returnees from Khartoum and the rest internally displaced persons who took refuge from the Lord’s Resistance Army’s atrocities in Tombura.
Catholic Emergency Response Manager Peter Saru Paul told Anisa Radio over the phone that the 12 women will take loans from CAFOD to finance income generating small businesses and the money be returned after six months with a small interest.
Mr Saru said the money will be given to individuals according to their capacities through the groups to make sure that it will not be lost.
Each person can borrow up to 2,000 pounds.
Mary Tupoi Takiyan, a returnee from Khartoum who owns a restaurant in Tombura, thanked CAFOD for the support.
She said she hoped the loan would help her carter for the children at school and the rest of the family.
Similar activities are planned for Ezo, Yambio and Maridi to benefit 12 selected women in every county.
