The state ministry of General Education is laying strategies to improve education facilities according to the national standard framework in Western Equatoria.

Education minister Pia Philip Michael told Anisa FM this morning that the education strategy is responsibility of both parents and teachers.

He said parents have to send their children to school, care for them, and protect them from early marriages, while teachers have to do their job effectively by following all the regulations in the education system.

Mr Pia explained that his ministry is planning to multiply classrooms and construct new schools to solve the issue of overcrowding and improve vocational training centres in the state.

He said quality education depends on having the best teachers and issues of training, salaries or other expenses shall be answered if the National Assembly approves the law earmarking 20 percent of revenues to education.

Mr Pia pointed out that the ministry is working hard to unify the school calendar and minimize public holidays that hinder teachers to cover the whole syllabuses.

He urged inspectors to monitor all schools and send regular reports to the state ministry of education.

Governor Bangasi Joseph Bakosoro this year launched the programme “Education first priority” in Western Equatoria after beating the Azande traditional drum – “Gugu” – calling everybody to go to school.
