The Catholic Bishop of Yei has urged seminarians to deepen their spiritual and cultural values while they wait for the philosophy section of the national major seminary to reopen.

Bishop Erkolano Lodu Tombe made this statement after his return to Rome where, together with Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro of Juba and Cardinal Gabriel Zubeir Wako of Khartoum, he discussed the situation of the Major Seminary with Vatican officials, Easter Radio reported.

Vatican officials decided to transfer the theology section from Khartoum to Juba and close the philosophy section for two years until new buildings are ready in St Paul’s Major Seminary in Juba to accommodate all seminarians.

Bishop Lodu said the students of philosophy of Yei diocese will use the two-year academic break to deepen their spiritual and cultural values and their commitment to the priesthood.

Bishop Lodu said the suspension of the philosophy section at the national seminary was not unique.

He said some countries in Africa had to close down the whole seminary for three years.

Bishop Lodu urged the seminarian to be patient until the philosophy section reopens.

The bishop of Yei, who is also the vice president of the Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference, called upon all the Christians and the clergy to support the seminarians.
