Upper Nile Legislative Assembly speaker said the state should collect funds to support the families of martyrs.

Chol Chuli Arop urged every person in the state to contribute for the fund that will be given to the families whose relatives were killed during the war of liberation, Voice of Love reported.

He said it was not good for the country to forget the children of those who paid their lives for freedom.

Mr Arop added that most of the children whose parents fought and died in the war make a great number of the today’s street kids left without care by the government.

He asked the state government to create the Martyrs Families Support Fund to make their lives better.

Upper Nile Governor Simon Kun Puoc accepted the request from the speaker.

He said he would put it into consideration.

Mr Kun promised the martyrs’ families that next year he will announce how much money was collected to support them.

The speaker made the proposal during yesterday’s Martyrs Day in Malakal.

He said if it succeeds it will be the first fund of the kind in South Sudan.
