The National Minister for Health has launched an Ebola alert calling on citizens to report suspected cases of the deadly virus.
Michael Milly Hussein told the press on Tuesday that Ugandan health authorities confirmed an outbreak of Ebola in the Midwest region.He said 20 cases of Ebola were reported and 14 people died including a clinical officer.
The minister explained that Ebola is a very infectious and dangerous virus.
Dr MiIly said the symptoms of Ebola or haemorrhagic fiver include very high fever, diarrhoea, rushes, vomiting and bleeding from all openings of the body.
The minister called on the population to remain calm and watch out for Ebola symptoms.
He said local health authorities should be informed immediately if a member of the family or a visitor displays some of Ebola’s signs.
Dr Milly said human movements between Uganda and Greater Equatoria were a great cause for concern.
He called on health authorities and the population of Greater Equatoria bordering Uganda to be alert about Ebola.
The minister called on border and airport health authorities to ensure that any suspect case is promptly detected and dealt with.
