War orphans are facing huge difficulties to access basic education because the commission responsible for their support is without money.
War orphans representative Pitia Nyombe said in his address to the crowd gathered at Dr John Garang Mausoleum to commemorate Martyrs Day that the children who lost their parents in the war cannot meet basic requirements for primary education.He added that due to austerity measures the War Disabled, Widow and Orphans Commission was no longer able to address the orphans’ needs.
Mr Nyombe explained that war orphans have created a community based organization to collect data about war orphans and lobby for funds from NGOs.
He urged well-wishers to support war orphans education.
The widow of the late William Nyon Bany, Aboch Bakol, who is also Medical Republican Guards Director, said the widows are encountering difficulties in bringing up their children.
She said the widows face the daunting challenge of raising the kids left in their hands.
Mama Bakol stressed it was very important day to remember loved ones lost in the war.
The Martyrs Day celebration started at 2 PM in Juba and was attended by hundreds of people.
The programme included speeches and cultural dances and songs.
