Wau town of Western Bahr El Ghazal State on Wednesday welcomed El-Salam team after representing South Sudan in CEFACA tournament in Dar El-Salaam, Tanzania.
A welcoming ceremony was organized at the Police headquarters in the State.Western Bahr El Ghazal Governor, Rizik Zachariah Hassan, praised the team, saying that the performance was according to the standard of the country, Radio Voice of Hope reported.
He urged the club members to work hard to represent the country next year, but not to be demoralized by the result.
Chairman of the Team to Tanzania, John Sherrilo, said the team faced accommodations and transportation challenges.
Mr. Sherrilo said that the team complained to CECAFA organizers about the absence of the new nation’s flag at the beginning of the competition.
He added that the team lost the three matches it played, but that the result will encourage it to improve.
El-Salam football club participated in CECAFA as South Sudan champion club, but lost three matches by 19 goals.
