South Sudan national languages are to be used for instruction in schools from primary one through primary three.
Undersecretary at the Ministry of General Education and Instruction Deng Deng Hoc told CRN on Wednesday that the provision of national languages is meant to promote, respect and development of languages.He added the use of national languages gives opportunity for South Sudan to promote and celebrate its culture.
Mr Deng explained that the bill said national languages will be used as media of instruction from primary one to three while English language is taught as a subject.
He added that national languages will also be used in preschool for two years.
Mr Deng said in urban setting the bill gives the schools to choose what languages can be used but not imposed by the ministry.
The General Education bill which has undergone public hearing on Wednesday requires indegenous languages used for instruction as enshrined in the Transitional Constitution.
