LAKES GOVERNMENT RECOGNIZES LATE BISHOP’S DEVELOPMENTAL INITIATIVES

Lakes State top Government officials on Sunday said that the State Government is proud of developmental projects initiated by the late Bishop Caesar Mazzolari in South Sudan.

Rural Development Minister Daniel Chol Koknyin, acknowledged the Church’s contribution to the welfare of the people of South Sudan.

He was speaking during the 1st commemoration of the late Bishop Caesar Mazzolari of Rumbek Diocese at the Holy Family Cathedral.

Chol recalled that Bishop Mazzolari initiated tremendous developmental initiatives in Rumbek Diocese.

He said the late Bishop launched the 101 days of prayer for peace ahead of the country’s referendum, built Cueibet Teachers Training, health facilities and the construction of a new Cathedral.

Chol pledged government’s support to the Church, and expressed hope that Rumbek Diocese will to finalize all projects started by the late Bishop Mazzolari.

The State Minister for Education, Athian Majak Malou, appreciated the Catholic Church in South Sudan for empowering South Sudanese.

Majak said that South Sudan’s Government is impressed by the role of the Catholic Church plays in the fight against illiteracy and ignorance.

He urged all missionaries in Rumbek Diocese to draw courage and motivation from the spirit of the late Bishop Mazzollari.

The commemorative celebrations were also organized in other Parishes of the Diocese because they could not reach to the Holy Family Cathedral.

The late bishop Caesar Mazzolari died on 16th July 2011 while presiding over thanksgiving mass of the independence of South Sudan in the Cathedral in Rumbek Diocese.
