Lakes State Minister for Local Government and Law Enforcement Agencies has called for concerted efforts in the fight against corruption.
Benjamin Makuer Mabor who was addressing participants during a Governance and Anti-Corruption Forum in Rumbek on Thursday expressed concern that corruption is hindering development in South Sudan.He underscored the need for a joint effort in the war against graft, urging Government officials at both state and national levels to deal with corruption in their respective jurisdictions for the sake of enhancing development in the country.
Lakes State Anti-Corruption Commission Director-General, Khon Kueth Mar, blamed what he termed as unfair policies for the rise in incidents of corruption.
He added that it is never too late for the country to deal with graft.
Mr Kueth said some individuals have taken advantage of such policies to squander money for employee’s pension schemes.
He acknowledged the role plaid by development partners in the fight against the vice particularly through capacity building and called on government departments to consider developing budget tracking tools.
The Governance and Anti-corruption Forum was established in each of the ten states of South Sudan following the country’s Anti-corruption Strategy 2010-2014 and the Memorandum of Understanding between the State Governments and South Sudan Anti-Corruption Commission.
The forum brought together state government officials, MPs, judiciary, tribal chiefs and NGO representatives.
