Lakes state government has beeped up security in Cueibet County due to tension their on Sunday.
Government spokesperson, Charles Badiri Mayan on Sunday said that tension in Cueibet County was high but security agents were able to contain the situation, Good News Radio reported.He added that the delegation of top government officials on Saturday visited the area to urge Cueibet residents to end the conflict, revealing that additional law enforcers, including the army have been deployed to the areas to restore peace and order.
Mr Badiri said he could not confirm the number of people who were killed in the conflict, because of lack of accurate information from sources on ground but expressed hope that security agencies would soon be able to provide the exact number of casualties.
Hon. Badiri disclosed that Lakes state government has received some information that youth from Rumbek North and Malik Payams have been mobilizing themselves to join the fighting in Cueibet.
He said the incident was unfortunate and called for unity among Lakes State residents, expressing concern that insecurity is going to have an adverse effect on farming in the area.
The minister said the government has formed an investigation to establish the causes of the fighting.
The conflict in Cueibet has been reportedly going on for about a week and it is feared that the number of those who may have been wounded or killed could be high.
