The Upper Nile University in Malakal intends to invest in agriculture to make food available in the country.

Director for External Relations Peter Adwok Otto said the University has taken upon itself to invest on food production, Voice of Love reported.

He added that about 20 feddans inside the campus will be planted with vegetables and other crops.

Dr Otto said 1,000 feddans were earmarked in Renk by the University for growing sorghum.

He added that the University hoped to feed the people of Malakal and beyond.

Dr Otto said another medium term investment shall start next year on Gum Africa previously known as Gum Arabica and sunflower cultures.

He added that the University also intends to operate a very special clinic in town next year.

Dr Otto explained that these investments mean to relieve the Government from the financial stress of managing the University.

He asked the Government to provide good security and encouraged the citizens to cultivate their fields because Ð he said Ð agriculture cannot fail on the soil of South Sudan.
