KAUDA STRUGGLES WITH ECONOMIC DEPRESSION

Kauda, in Nuba Mountains, is involved in a mantle of silence due to the economic depression created by the civil war that started 11 months ago in South Kordofan.

Khartoum has forbidden the international community to intervene in the Southern Kordofan and most civilians are suffering from starvation.

A local source told CRN via e-mail that many shops in Kauda have few goods to sell at very high prices.

Other spaces had to shut down due to lack of goods to trade although Kauda used to be a thriving commercial hub in Nuba Mountains with air connections to South Sudan, Kenya and other countries.

Local leaders are asking traders to reduce the prices of food but they insist they can’t because transport costs are very high.
