Private university owners’ condemned the closure of their institutions at the Higher Education Minister’s orders and pressed the President of the Republic to intervene.
Last week, the Minister of Higher Education closed 22 private universities because they do not meet higher education standards.Association of Private Universities Chairman Godson Reuben Ladu told the press Tuesday that his associates were surprised by the sudden closure of 22 private universities without prior warning, Bakhita Radio reported.
He said the private universities were waiting for the results of the assessment made by the committee to study the credibility of the private universities.
Mr Ladu said his Association presented a petition to Salva Kiir Mayardit urging the President to revoke the Higher Education minister’s decision.
The head of the Association of Private Universities said both private and public universities bring economic, social and cultural sustainability to South Sudan.
Mr Ladu concluded that the minister’s decision to close 22 private Universities was biased and contradictory.
