There is a need to empower and bring up the youth to enable them to face the new challenges of developing the Republic of South Sudan.

This is the view of Lakes State Governor Chol Tong Mayay in an interview with Good News Radio after attending a celebration organized by the state’s youth to welcome the new ministers.

He said nation building needs skilful youths in government because the challenges of development are very different from the challenges of liberation.

Eng Tong advised the young people of Lakes to acquire necessary skills that will enhance their marketability beyond state level.

He thanked the youth for appreciating the appointment of young people to the cabinet.

Eng Tong recognized the potential of women in nation building.

He noted that women are skilful and they can be helpful.

Eng Tong revealed that his recent move to appoint a woman to the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure is a challenge to women to prove that they have the ability to contribute to service delivery and make a difference.

The head of Lakes State Youth Joseph Akot Mabor thanked the Governor for appointing young people to the cabinet.

He promised that there will be no more wrangles among the youth and that they will work closely with the government.

Lakes State cabinet was sworn in on May 1, but the Governor has yet to name three ministers for Labour, Agriculture and Social Development. The first two were vetoed by the Legislative Assembly and the third has to be appointed by the opposition.
