South Sudan’s women are rallying for peace across the country in a nationwide demonstration organized by the national Ministry of Gender, Child and Social Welfare.

Undersecretary Esther Ikere Eluszai wrote a letter to all Churches asking the congregations to support the event.

She says the peaceful women’s demonstration under the banner “Call to end hostilities in the two neighbouring countries, Sudan and South Sudan”, backs up President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s decision to withdraw the army from oil rich disputed Panthou-Higlig.

Ms Ikere writes that women of South Sudan suffered a lot during the war and now they want peace, stability, development and prosperity.

No going to war Ð no more bloodshed, she added.

In Juba, the rally started at John Garang’s Tomb. The participants went to the President’s Office to deliver a message and concluded the rally at the UN headquarters.
