An American diplomat wrote a short poem for Juba that reads: √É’Late night rain in Juba raises the scent of the earth and hope.’
Bruce Wharton is the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Public Diplomacy in the Bureau of African Affairs at the US State department. He told CRN that young people around the world are returning to poetry through hip hop.He said hip hop is poetry mixed with music and that it was √É’cool’ for people to use words to express themselves.
Mr Wharton said he likes writing Haiku poems, a Japanese form of poetry which is very short.
Mr Wharton defined poetry as the purist possible use of words to express emotions and ideas.
Bakhita Radio launched today the talk show √É’Words that change hearts’ dedicated to poetry to bring poems and poets into the spotlight in the new nation.
