The members of the National Legislative Assembly on Wednesday said they were ready to support the army protecting the borders of South Sudan with some part of their salaries.
Assembly Clerk Othom Rago Ajak read a circular to the MPs about the support they were expected to give to the army and asked them to sit down and come out with a concrete answer. He said the speaker, his two deputies and the leader of the minority were to pay 1,500 pound each; chairpersons of committees and chief wisps 1,000 pounds each; deputy chairpersons 750 pound each; and every MP 500 pounds.
Stephen Ajango from Northern Bahr El Ghazal said MPs could not wait until the recess ended to take a decision because fighting was going on and Khartoum continued to bomb South Sudan.
He added that the members in the Assembly should support the army and MPs should not keep quiet about Khartoum’s attacks against South Sudan.
