USAID, the United States Agency for International Development, has restated its commitment to address the immediate humanitarian needs of the people of South Sudan.
USAID’s Assistant Administrator in South Sudan Nancy Lindborg told Internews Network that issues of governance and conflict mitigation also remained key components in the agency’s agenda for the new country.She said USAID wanted to support a democratic government and agriculture in South Sudan.
Ms Lindborg praised the much important role played by community radio stations across South Sudan.
She said that media remained very importance in the democratization process of any country.
She added that the radio can play a key role in the Constitution process informing listeners about the issues and ideas under discussion
Ms Lindborg said that sustainability of donor funded projects depended on a stable government, strong civil society and an active private sector.
She acknowledged the progress made so far in rebuilding South Sudan, congratulated the South Sudanese for their courageous journey and reaffirmed USAID’s commitment to working closely with the people of South Sudan.
