Shortage of fuel and lack of money to buy spare parts are two of the causes for the power blackout all over South Sudan.
National electricity and dams minister David Deng Athorbei said today in Bakhita Radio Wake up morning show that Khartoum cut off supplies of fuel in May 2011 after South Sudan voted for independence. He said the Government is importing fuel from Kenya but that country has limited supply capacities.
Mr Deng said the ministry also faced the problem of lack of spare parts.
He explained that diesel generators need constant change of parts.
Mr Deng added that the ministry does not have money to pay suppliers since December and they turned the tap off.
Mr Deng announced that the ministry is planning a short term agreement with Vitol Company who is buying South Sudan’s oil to supply the country with fuel.
He added that the negations are in a good stage and hopefully within a week the company will be in position to supply the country with the fuel it needs.
