More than 200 teachers from Central Equatoria were graduated on Saturday in Juba after receiving a six-month intensive refresher course.
The course targeted mainly teachers from public schools with less attention to private and community base schools.Perina Hancy, Central Equatoria Education Project Coordinator with Norwegian Refugees Commission, told Bakhita Radio that 204 teachers from Arabic background underwent intensive English and teaching methodology training courses.
She said the number of the trained teachers rose to 806 for the last two years in Central Equatoria and 453 were women.
Ms Hancy explained that the course targeted more women than men in order to encourage and support the government’s policy “Let all girls go to school.”
She added that it was also important to enrol more females for the teachers’ course because women are the best educators of children because they are also mothers.
Ms Hancy said her organization will repeat the training in February 2013.
