The ruling party in South Sudan is starting today a high level meeting to review its Constitution and and other documents and programs to display the post-independence reality.

SPLM spokesperson Yan Matthew told CRN over the phone that chairperson Salva Kiir Mayardit will open the National Liberation Council at 2 PM in Nyakuron Cultural Centre.

This is the first time the National Liberation Council, the second highest SPLM body, meets after the independence of South Sudan.

The four-day meeting will be under the theme “Providing visionary leadership to build a free, peaceful and prosperous South Sudan.”

The 170 participants will revise the SPLM Manifesto and other relevant documents in line with the new reality brought about by the independence of the country.

Mr Kiir is scheduled to deliver a report on political, socio-economic and security developments.

Secretary General Pagan AMum will report on the “health” of the SPLM and attempt to answer questions on whether or not the party is well organized to deliver on its promises.

The participants will also debate a financial report explaining how much money and from where the party received over the past years and how it was managed.
