The Sudanese Army is using high-speed, long-range Chinese-made rockets to spread fear and death in Nuba Mountains.

The rockets, fired from more than 40 kilometres away, travel at 4,800 kilometres per hour and are packed with a 150-Kilo bomb often loaded with steel ball bearings to increase deadly capacity, The New York Times reported.

Witnesses say the rockets that are launched from tracks often explode without warning in villages instead of military targets.

An American aid worker living in Nuba Mountains said the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) fired more than 70 rockets into the Nuba Mountains since December, killing 18 people, including several children.

SAF spokesman Al-Sawarmi Khalid confirmed the use of Chinese rockets in Nuba Mountains.
