SUDANESE REFUGEES IN SOUTH SUDAN PASS 100,000 MARK

The number of Sudanese refugees in South Sudan now stands at almost 103,000, and 80 per cent are from Blue Nile State, UNHCR, the UN agency for Refugees, said.

The total number of registered Sudanese refugees in Upper Nile stands at over 78,000 people.

In Yida, Pariang and Nyeel camps of Unity State there are another 17,650 refugees from South Kordofan.

About 70 per cent are children.

Over 26,000 people mainly from Blue Nile took refuge in Tongo and Sherkole camps of Ethiopia and the Ad-Damazin transit centre.

53 per cent are below 18 years of age.

UNHCR teams are trying to locate some unverified 25,000 refugees scattered in the border area between Sudan and South Sudan.
