The UN has asked Sudan and South Sudan to end renewed hostilities along the border that have displaced thousands of people.

The UN Security Council yesterday expressed grave concern over renewed cross-border violence and asked Sudan and South Sudan to cease military operations in the area and put an end to the cycle of violence.

It also asked both governments to take no action that would undermine the security and stability of the other.

The Council members urged Sudan and South Sudan to solve their political and security issues through negotiations.

It added that 12,000 students from South Sudan attending educational and military institutions in Sudan should be treated with dignity until they completed their studies.
