Six states of South Sudan will be under a severe threat of famine especially between March and September when food shortages will be more acute.

The waning comes from the UN food security and livelihoods partners who say that Unity State and parts of Upper Nile, Jonglei, Warrap, Central Equatoria and Northern Bahr El Ghazal states are expected to have cereal deficits over 70 percent.

The UN says the hunger season is likely to begin in March and extend until September instead of the May-August traditional period.
