The students’ welfare in the University of Juba continues to represent a challenging issue that needs immediate attention.

Juba University Student Union Academic Secretary Kuc Mayur Kuc told CRN today that the Union met yesterday with minister of the Office of the President Emmanuel Lowilla to discuss problems faced by the students.

He said they discussed the issue of Arabic speaking lecturers.

Mr Mayur explained that students who attended the Kadoro campus in Khartoum are from Arabic stream and it is very difficult to follow lectures in English in Juba.

He added that they are threatening with violence if the issue is not solved.

Mr Mayur said accommodation is another big issue.

He explained that the University of Juba has 14 thousand students and only 3,000 have adequate housing. The rest sleep at the verandas, basketball court or other spaces.

He added that the university has only one dining hall for 2,000 people.

Mr Mayur said the sanitation at the campus is another issue due to lack of a students’ welfare body.

He added that minister Lowilla asked the union to meet him again next week.
