The director general for agriculture and forestry at Central Equatoria Agriculture Ministry said the state will inspect farm projects and monitor the activities of foreign organizations investing in agriculture.
Director General Issac Lado Samson said their development partners working in farming projects including USAID are working alone and that they are not sharing information with the state’s Agriculture and Forestry Ministry about their budgets and project implementation. He added that most of the farm projects in Central Equatoria are scattered in all over the state, and the ministry would like to know their plans and budgets and understand their activities for easy accountability.
Mr Lado added that he hoped the staff from the ministry would be attached to the ongoing farm projects run by USAID, Action African Help, GIZ and FAO.
He said farmers in Central Equatoria are producing enough food using the traditional tools and methods because they are lacking mechanised system due to difficulty in acquiring tractors and other agricultural machinery.
Mr Lado pointed out that agriculture has been destroyed during the war but there is gradual recovery taking place.
He thanked the state government for agreeing a plan with the Chinese government to deliver tractors to help the farmers in the state.
