Eastern Equatoria state has launched another drive to find out names of absent and non-existent street cleaners in the government payroll.

Governor Louis Lobong Lojore, who launched the payroll clean-up operation yesterday at Torit Freedom Square as part of the Keep Torit Clean campaign, explained that the drive covers cleaning employees in Torit and other counties.

He said the process will enable the authorities to identify the number of active workers in the counties and those who only appear to get a salary.

Mr Lobong said there are over 500 paid employees but the number of workers is much lower.

The Governor revealed that he wants to set up a proper system to keep the towns clean and make workers love their job.

Mr Lobong, who participated personally in the cleaning exercise, said he plans to visit other counties for the same process.

He added that the town cleaners’ work is a job worth doing and county commissioners and payam administrators should motivate the cleaners to do they work well and keep areas entrusted to them clean.

Torit County commissioner Felix Otuduha Siro appealed to residents to clean their houses in order to improve public health.
