The Council of States has summoned today the Governor of Jonglei state and the defence and interior ministers to answer a motion concerning the Lou Nuer attacks in Pibor County and Sudan’s continued bombings of border areas.
Honourable Victor Edward, who raised the motion, said the Council of States wanted the governor and the two ministers to brief the members on the steps taken to put an end to the escalating inter-tribal violence in Jonglei.
He added that the Council of States wanted to know the measures put in place by the state government to curb cattle rustling.
Mr Edward added that the members of the Council would like to know what plans the national government had concerning the proliferation of small arms in the whole country and in Jonglei state in particular.
He said the Council wanted to know what the national government was doing to resolve tribal conflicts and defend the territorial integrity of South Sudan from aerial attacks by Sudan Armed Forces.
Murle sultan Ismail Konyi was also at the sitting but he left the Hall after the summoned officials addressed the House.
