An opposition party has condemned in the strongest terms Khartoum’s unilateral decision to impose passage fees on South Sudan’s crude oil being shipped through its infrastructure.

Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir said his government will charge monthly fees on crude oil flowing from South Sudan until the two governments reach an agreement on transport payments.

National United Democratic Front Party (NUDFP) secretary Henry Danima Odu, told the press yesterday in Juba that it condemned the decision calling it an act of piracy, Bakhita Radio reported.

He added that the action does not promote cordial relations between Sudan and South Sudan, accusing Khartoum of lack of cooperation to maintain a good relationship with its neighbour.

Mr Danima explained that his party supports the SPLA decision to retake South Sudan’s territories occupied by Sudan Armed Forces including Jau, Kuek and Hufrate el Nahass.

Mr Danima said Kartum’s acts of aggression against South Sudan’s sovereignty are sins against God, the citizens of South Sudan, and the international community.

He praised Salva Kiir’s recent visit to Israel, saying it was valuable for the President to visit the Holy Land, irrespective of opposing voices from Khartoum.
